Important Tips For Seniors Going On A Cruise

It’s that time of life to have the time of your life!

SeniorCruise-ProbusWorldTravelWhether you just want to relax, or have a little adventure, or both…cruising is the ideal vacation for seniors.

If you’ve never been on a cruise, there are so many reasons why you’re going to love it!

  1. You’ll never have to worry about the food you eat, the food is gourmet with a wide variety of menu choices. In addition, if you have dietary needs, they will be accommodated for.
  2. There is great entertainment onboard with Broadway-style shows in the evening.
  3. There are great daytime activities that include interesting classes, spas, exercise classes, or just a comfy lounge chair to take a nap or read a good book.
  4. Unless you’re shopping, you can keep your wallet in your pocket…cruising is like an all-inclusive resort (except for any in port excursions you may choose to go on), all expenses have been paid for upfront.
  5. There are relaxing days at sea or you can venture into port and learn about new places and things.
  6. For your peace of mind, there is usually a doctor on board.

Tips for planning your cruise…

The key to having that memorable cruise you’ve been dreaming of lies in the planning.

  • CruiseDestinations-ProbusWorldTravelChoose a travel agent who specializes in cruises to book your travel for you. They will be able to advise on everything from cruise lines and destinations, to excursions and the clothing you should bring. Your travel agent will also be able to advise you on any senior discounts that might be available.
  • Aside from clothing, there are a few other things you’ll want to be sure to throw in your suitcase:
    • Don’t forget your medications…an extra dose for precautionary sake is a good idea.
    • Binoculars
    • Camera – most people will have one in their smartphone.
    • Sunglasses and reading glasses
    • Travel documents (ask your travel agent for a list of these)
    • Sunscreen
    • A small backpack for when you go to shore.
  • Book your travel well in advance. You will have a better chance of getting the type of cabin you want.
  • Let your cruise staff know your personal needs and don’t forget, there is priority boarding, where you can receive extra assistance if you need it.
  • DiningOnCruise-ProbusWorldTravelThe food is delicious and there is plenty of it, so listen to your body if it starts telling you to slow down a little. The last thing you want is stomach problems and a trip to the ship’s doctor.
  • When choosing shore excursions, read the description carefully. Some are more vigorous than others, so choose the ones that will be most suitable to you.
  • Don’t forget to purchase travel insurance. It can cover everything from medical expenses to lost luggage and missed connections. Medical insurance is important, because if you are on Medicare, there are times and places that it won’t cover your situation.
